F.A.Q

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about us and how we work

What is your refund policy?

We have a 48-hour refund policy. If you do not cancel your tour within this time frame you will be held responsible for the total amount of your tour. If your flight has been cancelled because of weather please do call us right away no matter what time and leave a message. We will try and reschedule your tour for you and discuss other options. We do not encourage people to book their tour on the same day their flight is due to arrive. As we all know flights run late all the time. If your flight is arriving on the same day of your tour, we do suggest giving yourself at least a 3 hours leeway between your flight arrival and your tour. Between flight delays, traffic, and having to drop off your bags at your hotel know that the risk of running late is high. Especially if your are booked on one of our group tours we cannot make the group wait.

Please also know that it is YOUR responsibility to keep a check on 5 day weather forecast. We go out rain, snow or shine and if you don't want to go out because of inclement weather once again must let us know within 48 hours.

Do tours go out if the weather is bad?

Positive Tours goes out in rain, snow or shine. We do have indoor options sites in some tours we can visit on bad weather days. This will lessen (not eliminate) the amount of outside time we spend in bad weather. Positive Tours does reserve the option to cancel a tour if we think the weather could be hazardous. If you want to cancel your tour because of bad weather or for any other reason we require a 48-hour notice and you will not be charged. So please do keep a close watch on the weekly weather report for our area during the time of your planned visit.

What kind of attire should we wear?

Of course this depends on the time of year and depending on when and where you are going.

In general, Northern Vietnam weather is tropical, so make sure you are comfortable. If you go on a trip to the mountain areas like Sapa or Ha Giang in the winter ( from November till the end of February), 3 layer rules are applied. A shirt, something warm and something water/wind-proof. in the summer, bring bikinis. In the worse case , please let us know. we have winter clothing for you to borrow.

Some of the religious sites like churches or pagodas. It is a requirement to cover your shoulders and legs with T-shirts or pants. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD WALKING SHOES. (Sneakers or hiking shoes are best) Please do not show up in a pair of high heels. If you do. we can almost guarantee that your feet will suffer dearly. We know Vietnam is one of biggest textile and fashion manufacturers on earth but please save your fashion statement for dinner or the theater. You can always buy raincoats in case of raining (and it rains often due to its tropical position here in Vietnam)

Is everything covered in the price?

In general, our tours cover all costs. Though some tours you need to read the description clearly.

What about food?

Yes! In a country with so much great food, it would be crazy not to. Food is a big part of our tours, most tours cover all the meals you can eat.

Please ask us if you are a real hard core vegetarian or vegan or organic food eater. Also, please let us know if you are allergic to some ingredient.

and drinks?

No! a 1,5 litter bottle of water or a can of pop can be bought everywhere here for about USD 1 each. Due to the nature of some of our tours, we encourage travelers not to drink alcohols, especially those who ride motorbike with us.

Do we actually go on a motorbike?

Yes, motorbikes are the most common way people in Vietnam travel. Almost every adult has a motorbike here. We are not exceptional. Some parts of some tours we are traveling on motorbike. It depends on the tour how long we travel with motorbike.

We provide good helmets. Safe drivers and other safety gears. For more frequently asked question about motorbikes, please see in the F.A.Q - The motorbike. please see more F.A.Q about the motorbike.

Is travel insurance covered in the price?

Unfortunately no, you are responsible for your own travel insurance as travelers. In general, International travel insurance companies cover accidents in case that you are a passenger on the back of the bike. If you want to ride a motorbike, please check with your own insurance company on this. If you have no insurance, we can help buying some short insurance 5 day minimum for our trip. Please write us for more on prices

Where do the tours begin?

Because most of our tours are private tours, we will pick you up at your hotel as long as it is in the city center. If you have another preferred pick up location besides your hotel, this can be discussed with us.

For the tours outside of Hanoi, many people do not actually start the tour from Hanoi. You can write us to coordinate buses from many different locations e.g Sapa, Ha Long or elsewhere.

For those who want to continue traveling to other destinations but not via Hanoi, please write us too. We have connection from Sapa-Ha Giang- Ha Long. Be aware these are local communal buses, so they might not be as comfortable as our SUVs transports.

Is it okay to tip your tour guide?

Tipping is always optional, but if you have a great time and want to thank your tour guide or simply want to contribute to our cause, gratuities are very much appreciated.

Are your tours appropriate for kids or old people?

We do always suggest doing PRIVATE TOURS if you are coming with young children under the age of 8 years old. Every child is different of course and you know your child best. Our group tours do move at a specific pace and your child has to be able to keep up. This is why we suggest private tours where you can go at a pace that is comfortable for your child and you can stop whenever needed. Depending on the age of your children you can choose the tour. We do love children and find that they truly enjoy the experience. It's just a matter of choosing the right tour and communicating about options for them. The same rule applied to older people. In our experience, we have had a courageous 7-year old or an exciting late 50-year old having a blast, loving every bit of the adventure.
